Self-Guided Field Trips
Self-guided field trips include a brief orientation with a museum staff person, followed by 1 hour
(basic) or 2 hours (extended) of hands-on exploration of all museum exhibits.  Mess Hall (cafeteria)
seating for 60 is available for scheduled groups at no charge.  The Mess Hall must   be reserved
in advance.  Reservations are subject to availability.  Weather permitting, an outdoor picnic area  
is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Available Field Trip Times:
     *9:30, 10:45 a.m.
      *12:00, 1:15, 2:30 p.m.
Field Trip Admission:
      *$3.00 per child for 1-hour, basic field trips                                                                             
(
1  adult admitted free per 5 children, with minimum charge of $35.00 per group).
     $3.50/$4.00 per child for Book Bashes and Discovery Workshops
(1 adult admitted free per 5 children, with a minimum of $35.00/$40.00 per group).
     *$4.00 per child for 2-hour, extended field trips
(1 adult admitted free per 5 children with a minimum of $40.00).
      *Extra adults are $3.00 each.

      *$3.00: 2 years-Seniors

Monday-Friday, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
*GET ON THE BUS!  Children’s Museum of Illinois has bus transportation money available for
BodyWalk in March, and Basic field trips during the months of October, January, and February.  
Due to budget constraints, only one $80 grant per class during this school year will be allowed.  
There must be a minimum of 20 students per class.  Funding is for bus transportation only.

Discovery Workshops
All workshops/programs consist of 45-60 minutes of classroom time and a minimum of 45-60
minutes of exploration in the museum.  Please call 423-5437 with questions or for additional
information.
There are NO workshops or programs on Mondays.
*Home school groups are also welcome at all grade-appropriate workshops.


October Workshops 2nd-24th

Spy Science: Grades 4th-6th
Come join us for a new workshop that looks into the science and math skills needed to become a
great spy! Decoding and experiments are just  few activities that will make this workshop a hit!
-$4 per child.
-Allow 2 hours total field trip time.

Big Science for small fries: Grades Pre-k-1st
Bring your students for an out of this world science extravaganza where they will explore the basics
of science through experiments and hands-on exploration!
-$3.50 per child
-Allow 11/2 hours for field trip time

November Workshops 6th-21st


Prairie Pow Wow: Grades K-4th

This workshop is a hands-on experience highlighting the legends, games, foods, and crafts of the
Native Americans who once lived in our areas, and will feature STARLAB, our mobile planetarium.
-$4 per child
-Allow 2 hours museum time

Mystery of the Missing Colonists: Grades 5 and 6
Here we will learn about the settlement of Roanoke and the mystery surrounding the colonists who
vanished into thin air. Did they die from disease? Did they join the local Indian tribes? Come listen,
learn, and sample foods of the day: and help us decipher this mystery.
-$4 per child
-Allow 2 hours for museum time

December Workshops 4th-21st

The Polar Express: Grades 1st-4th
Get your students in the holiday spirit! Join us as we feature the book The
Polar Express by Chris
Van Allsburg. This workshop includes he story, holiday craft activities, and a treat.

Holiday Book Bash: Pre-k and Kindergarten
The rest of the holiday line-up will include Clement Clarke Moore's story The Night Before
Christmas
. Students will create a holiday craft and enjoy a holiday treat!

January Workshops: 8th-31st

Discovering Art: Grades 2nd-6th
In this workshop we will study the Art of Jackson Pollock! Come discover what you've known all
along-getting messy is fun! Lets discover the wonderful world of abstract! Come and throw some
paint with us!
-$4 per child
-Allow 2 hours for field trip time

Oodles of Doodles! Grades Pre-k-1st
This workshop features art for pre-schoolers, enabling them to sharpen both their gross and fine
motor skills. These young students oodles of fun discovering different mediums and using their
imaginative creativity!
-3.50 per child
-allow 11/2 hour of field trip time

February Workshops: 6th-29th

Valentine's Book Bash: Pre-k and Kindergarten
For the younger children we will offer a fun Valentine's day story! Join us as we read Hokey
Pokey: Another Prickly Love Story.
We will be making crafts and have a yummy treat!
-3.50 per child
-allow 11/2 hour of museum time

Black History: Grades 3rd-5th
This workshop is a great way to get your students interested in black history! Students will learn
more about histories Black Americans a their achievements! Come and read with us the story
Fallow the Drinking Gourd and take home a related craft!
-$4 per child
-2 hours in the museum

March Workshops: 4th-14th

Body Walk: 2nd Graders only
The Macon County Health Department, and other community health organizations, and CMI
welcome all 2nd graders to learn about the health issues of the body! With a action-oriented
learning experience, the children will have the chance to see and understand some of the
functions of the human body!
-$4 per child
-Allow 2 hours field trip time

March/April Workshops: March 18th-April 11th

Gold Rush! 2nd-6th
CHILDREN'S MUSEUM OR BUST! In this workshop we will learn about the gold rush craze of 1849
and why everyone was heading west to strike it rich! This class is sure to be a blast, we will even
get to pan our own gold!
-$4 per child
-allow 2 hours museum time

Book Bash: Where the Wild Things Are: Pre-k-Kindergarten
The youngsters will get to read a lovely book and take home a craft!
