| Discovery Workshops & Book bashes!! School Year 2011 - 2012 *Reservations may be made by calling (217) 423-5437 during regular business hours: Monday-Friday 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. “Fun with Nature!” Book Bash Children will explore and learn about the wonders of nature through many hands-on activities! We will read the story “Leaf Man” by Lois Ehlert, make a very special craft to take home, have a yummy treat and explore the museum! ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.K.R.L.1, CC.K.R.L.5 and CC.K.R.L.10 Cost: $3.50 per child Grades: Pre-K – 1st Grades Dates: October 5th-7th, October 12th-14th, October 19th-21st, and October 26th-28th 45 minutes in classroom and 45 minutes in museum Prairie Pow Wow Workshop A fun and informative workshop highlighting the legends, games, foods and crafts of the early Native Americans. The program also features StarLab, our mobile planetarium. ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.2.R.L.1 and CC.2.R.I.3 Cost: $4.00 per child Grades: 1st - 4th Grades Dates: October 26th-28th, November 2nd-4th, November 9th-11th, and November 16th-18th 1 hour in classroom and 1 hour in museum The Night Before Christmas Workshop Come listen to the heartwarming story of “The Night Before Christmas” and discover the magic of the season! We will make a special holiday craft, enjoy a scrumptious treat with Mrs. Claus and explore the museum. ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.K.R.L..1, CC.K.R.L.5 and CC.K.R.L.10 Cost: $4.00 per child Grades: Pre-K – 2nd Grades Dates: December 1st-2nd, December 6th-9th, and December 13th-16th 1 hour in classroom and 1 hour in museum “Max and Ruby's Valentine” Book Bash Children will learn the importance of friendships as we listen to the story “Max’s Valentine” by Rosemary Wells. Make a special Valentine to give to a friend, have a yummy Valentine treat and explore the museum. ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.K.R.L..1, CC.K.R.L.5 and CC.K.R.L.10 Cost: $3.50 per child Grades: Pre-K – Kindergarten Dates: February 1st-3rd, February 7th-10th, and February 14th-17th 45 minutes in classroom and 45 minutes in museum Abraham Lincoln Workshop In honor of Mr. Lincoln’s birthday, this workshop provides children with a great opportunity to learn about our 16th President! Students will do many hands-on crafts and activities. Come be a part of bringing the history of “Honest Abe” to life! ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.2.R.L.1 and CC.2.R.I.3 Cost: $4.00 per child Grades: 1st – 4th Grades Dates: February 1st-3rd, February 7th-10th, and February 14th-17th 1 hour in classroom and 1 hour in museum Body Walk: 1st & 2nd Graders Only Please All first and second graders are welcome to attend this cooperative effort by CMI, Macon County Health Department and other community health organizations. This is an action-oriented learning experience about health and nutrition. Join us for this bunny themed workshop and listen to the story “One Brown Bunny” by Marion Dane Bauer. We will make a special Springtime craft, enjoy a yummy bunny treat, and explore the museum. ***Meets Illinois State Common Core Standards CC.K.R.L..1, CC.K.R.L.5 and CC.K.R.L.10 Cost: $3.50 per child Grades: Pre-K – Kindergarten Dates: March 21st-23rd, March 28th-30th, April 3rd-5th, and April 10th-13th 45 minutes in classroom and 45 minutes in museum CLICK HERE FOR A PRINTABLE REGISTRATION FORM Self-Guided Field Trips Self-guided field trips include a brief orientation with a museum staff person, followed by 1 hour (basic) or 2 hours (extended) of hands-on exploration of all museum exhibits. Mess Hall (cafeteria)seating for 60 is available for scheduled groups at no charge. The Mess Hall must be reserved in advance. Reservations are subject to availability. Available Field Trip Times: 9:30, 10:45 a.m.12:00 noon, 1:15 & 2:30 p.m. Field Trip Admission: basic (1 hour ) $3 per child; minimum of $30 Extended (2 hours) $4 per child; minimum of $40 (1 adult admitted free for every 5 children; additional siblings & parents are $3 per person) Those wishing to make a reservation for any program, workshop, or field trip need to have a minimum of 10 children. CMI has bus transportation money available for BodyWalk in March and Basic field trips during the months of October, January, and February. Due to budget constraints, only one $100 grant per class during this school year will be allowed. There must be a minimum of 20 students per class. Funding is for bus transportation only.
